Artist Statement

I grew up in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky.
Working with my hands has always been a way of life for me.
I was part of a rich heritage of women who
sewed, crocheted, knitted, smocked and embroidered.
They placed a high value on creativity
and allowed me to explore in any way that I wished.
That exploration has enabled me to become the artist that I am today.

Nature is always a strong influence in my work.
I find inspiration in the patterns and colors that I see.
It’s especially rewarding to be able to take nature and use it to make my work.
The artwork then reminds me of the peace and energy of that natural experience.
